When did the Aberdeen LEZ start?

The Aberdeen LEZ came into effect in May 2022 with a two-year grace period. Aberdeen City Council has fined non-compliant vehicles since 1 June 2024.

Which Aberdeen car parks can a non-compliant car use?

Ten of the 14 city-centre car parks can be reached without entering the zone: College Street, Union Square, Trinity Centre, Virginia Street, Frederick Street, West North Street, Gallowgate, Loch Street, Harriet Street and Denburn. The other four, Chapel Street, Ship Row, Queen Street and Justice Mill Lane, are inside it.

How do I avoid the Aberdeen LEZ from the Orkney and Shetland ferries?

Turn left onto Market Street as you leave the ferry terminal on Commercial Quay. Turning right takes you into the zone within a short distance, with no way to turn back.

How do I cross Aberdeen without entering the LEZ?

Nestrans, the regional transport partnership, points drivers travelling north or south to Anderson Drive or the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR) rather than through the city centre.

How many LEZ fines does Aberdeen issue?

Aberdeen City Council issued 23,963 LEZ penalty charge notices in the 2025/26 financial year, April 2025 to March 2026. Of those, 16,931 were first notices at £60. The council counts notices, not vehicles, and publishes the figures monthly.
