The date of first registration is on the V5C logbook (section B). The month only matters for diesels around 2015.

When did the Glasgow LEZ start?

Glasgow's LEZ started for buses on 31 December 2018 and for every other vehicle on 1 June 2023. Vehicles registered to an address inside the zone had an extra year, until 1 June 2024, and the council says that grace period cannot be extended.

Is the M8 in the Glasgow LEZ?

No, the M8 motorway is outside the zone, so any car can use it past the city centre. The zone itself is about one square mile, and Transport Scotland has put up signs on the M8 for drivers leaving it for the city centre.

How can I check a particular Glasgow street?

Glasgow City Council publishes the zone street by street, as a technical boundary map and as an interactive map. Signs went up at every entry point at the end of 2022, with road markings at some of them.

Can the Glasgow LEZ be suspended?

Yes, the council can suspend all or part of the zone for events of local or national significance. It can also do so in an emergency, such as a nearby incident that diverts traffic through the zone.

Can I get a temporary exemption for my own car in Glasgow?

No. Glasgow City Council grants time-limited exemptions for specific jobs, such as moving abnormal loads, but says it will not consider them for privately owned vehicles.
