When did the Bath Clean Air Zone start?

Bath's Clean Air Zone launched on 15 March 2021, about two years after the council's cabinet chose a Class C zone in spring 2019. Charges run from midnight to midnight, every day of the year.

Are SUVs and campervans charged in Bath?

Some are. Private cars are never charged, but an SUV, four-by-four or campervan registered as a van (vehicle category N1) can be, so the council asks owners to check it on the GOV.UK vehicle checker.

Is there a discount for motorhomes and horseboxes in Bath?

Yes. Larger motorhomes and horse transporters taxed as private HGVs, and not used for hire or reward, pay £9 a day instead of £100 once registered with the council. Approval can take up to 14 days, and registration is renewed each year.

How do Bath's local exemptions work?

They run through the council's MiPermit service, not GOV.UK, and must be approved before you travel. Several ended on 14 March 2023, including those for Blue Badge holders and community transport, and more ended on 14 March 2025.
